Books to Africa again. Help us make this possible!

more books

Last February the school districts in Zambia pleaded for books. “Teachers are teaching trying to teach without any books!” But to send a container of books to Zambia costs $20,000.00 dollars. We told them we just didn’t have the money. Low and behold two months later we received a grant from USAID. USAID has agreed to pay the shipping from the U.S.A. seaport to Zambia.

We will get the books from Books for Africa but we must pay the following: a warehouse stalking fee of $3,000 to fill a container, the trucking fee from the warehouse to the USA seaport $1,200 and the costs to deliver the books to the schools once they arrive in Zambia, $6,000.

I know you all pitched in when we said we needed a Toyota land cruiser, today we need your help again! Help us get the books to our schools in Zambia. Please send any amount. We have almost 1,000 contacts so that means if you each sent ten dollars we would have it!! You can make your donations on our website or send a check to the address listed below.

Be a Branch President for the ZSF

We are excited about the growth of the Zambia’s Scholarship Fund in California, Maryland, D.C. and New York. Volunteers in these states are sending books and DVD’s to foundations and telling friends about what we are doing in Zambia. This is an easy way to get the word out. If you would like to start a branch in your state this is a very wonderful thing to be involved in. It’s easy to do in your spare time and it doesn’t cost a thing. We will send you every thing you need to get started. We will coach you through. One of the things we need help with is volunteers who are willing to attend the CFC fairs.

CFC Logo

The CFC was started by the federal government in an effort to weed out all false charities. The CFC publishes a magazine with listings of Charities they suggest federal employees donate to. All charities in this magazine have gone through extensive audits, we are excited to have passed the audit and are listed in this magazine as an approved charity. Each year the CFC hosts charity fairs in September and October where charities can sit at a booth and tell federal employees about their charity. If you are a volunteer for the ZSF you can sit at a booth and giving out brochures and pamphlets, which will help us immensely. Contact Peggy Rogers as soon as possible if you would like to be a volunteer in your state.

In the documentary, Teach a Man to Fish, Humphrey Kafula tells us how as a young teen he become utterly hopeless.  His home life was very bad and he had no chance of success at school. He could see no end to his misery.  He went out to a remote area, planning to take his life, hoping he would never be found and bring shame to his mother.  While there he had a miraculous experience that made him realize that God cared for him.  He turned around and went home and in a very short time ended up being sponsored so that he could go to school.  He meet a teacher that changed his life filling him with hope and inspiration. His greatest desire in life then became the goal to become a teacher and share the light he gained from his education. Humphrey worked in the mines to save enough money, but couldn’t make ends meet. Eventually the Fund was able to send Humphrey to college. He was so happy he couldn’t express it.

Now, Humphrey is a teacher assigned to a rural village. Now his dreams of bringing hope and happiness to hundreds of young African students has come true. In time he hopes to work his way up to being a High School teacher.
